Saying Farewell to our First Graduate Cohort

Today we are saying goodbye to our eight Great British Energy- Nuclear sponsored graduates as they complete their first placement with us through the Nuclear Graduates programme delivered by Energus.

Since joining us in October last year, the cohort has made a strong impact across the organisation. They have supported a wide range of projects, brought fresh thinking into their teams, and quickly become a valued part of GBE‑N.

Alongside their work at GBE‑N, the graduates have represented the organisation during external visits to Sellafield and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

They have also helped raise GBE‑N’s profile at key industry events, including an event at 11 Downing Street in April marking the signing of GBE‑N’s contract with Rolls‑Royce SMR. Through their involvement in the Young Generation Network (YGN), including attending the Annual Seminar and Dinner, volunteering on subcommittees and taking part in a workshop with the YGN Strategic Committee, the cohort has strengthened our partnership with the network, built valuable industry connections and demonstrated GBE‑N’s commitment to supporting early career talent across the sector.

In addition, members of the cohort have supported school outreach and assessment centres, helping to encourage young people to consider careers in the nuclear sector. Their involvement has strengthened our presence across the industry and helped build valuable connections.

They have also contributed to internal initiatives such as our reverse mentoring scheme, working with senior leaders to share new perspectives and support leadership development.

This week, our Chair, Simon Bowen, thanked the cohort for choosing nuclear and GBE‑N, recognising both their contribution and the opportunity for them to return to the organisation in the future.

As they now move on to the next stage of their two-year programme, the graduates will complete two further eight-month secondments with organisations across the nuclear industry. Delivered by by Energus, the programme is designed to give them broad, cross-sector experience through three placements.

Talent Development Lead, Vicki Dingwall, said:

“Our first cohort of graduates have made an outstanding impact during their time at GBE‑N. The early careers programme plays an important role in creating opportunities for young people and building the talent for the future.

“This cohort has made a meaningful contribution in a fast-moving organisation, supporting projects across the business and bringing fresh perspectives to their teams. As our first cohort they have set a high standard and made a lasting impression beyond their day-to-day roles.”

We will welcome nine new graduates next month, who will join GBE‑N on eight-month secondments. During their time with us, they will gain valuable experience of the breadth of work taking place across their discipline areas, helping to build the knowledge, skills and networks they need for future roles in the nuclear sector. Programmes such as Nuclear Graduates, delivered by Energus, not only support the development of individual graduates, but also strengthen collaboration across the sector and help build the talent pipeline for the future.
