Naming Scheme Terms and Conditions
1. Purpose
Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) is inviting members of the local community to share suggestions for the name of the new nuclear power station at the Wylfa site. Participation in this naming competition is completely voluntary and forms part of GBE-N's public engagement activity.
2. Eligibility
The competition is open to individuals whose main residential address is located within the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn).
Children and Young People may take part, including through schools. Where a participant is under the age of 18, additional safeguards apply as set out in these Terms and Conditions and the competition Privacy Notice.
To participate, applicants must provide a valid Anglesey postcode as part of the application form submission. By submitting a suggestion, entrants confirm that the postcode provided relates to their main residential address at the time of submission.
Great British Energy - Nuclear reserves the right to reject any submission that does not meet this eligibility requirement.
3. Ownership of Suggestions
By submitting a suggestion, entrants assign to Great British Energy - Nuclear all rights, including any intellectual property rights, in the suggestion. This allows GBE-N to use, adapt, modify, publish or implement your suggestion in any way it considers appropriate, without obligation to provide payment or recognition.
4. Publicity and Consent
Participation in the competition does not require agreement to publicity.
If a suggestion is shortlisted or selected, GBE-N may invite the participant to take part in publicity related to the competition. Any publicity activity will take place only with explicit consent.
Where the participant is under the age of 18, publicity will take place only where explicit consent has been provided by a parent or legal guardian.
Consent for publicity may be withdrawn at any time. Withdrawal of consent will not affect participation in the competition but may not affect material already published.
5. No Confidentiality
Suggestions submitted as part of the competition are not confidential. Entrants should not include information that belongs to another person or that is subject to confidentiality agreements.
6. How Suggestions Are Handled
All suggestions will be reviewed against the published criteria. GBE-N may accept, reject, shortlist, or use part of a suggestion at its discretion.
GBE-N are not required to give feedback or explanations for decisions. Suggestions that do not meet the eligibility requirements may be rejected without consideration.
7. Rewards
No prizes, awards or financial rewards will be offered as part of this competition. Any recognition is entirely at the discretion of Great British Energy - Nuclear.
8. Entrant Responsibility
Entrants confirm that their suggestion:
- Does not infringe the rights of any third party
- Is not unlawful, offensive, or inappropriate
Great British Energy – Nuclear accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage arising from the submission or use of a suggestion.
9. Data Protection
Great British Energy – Nuclear is the data controller for personal data collected as part of this competition.
Personal data will be used solely to:
- Verify eligibility
- Administer the competition
- Contact shortlisted or selected participants
- Support agreed publicity activity, where explicit consent has been provided
Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection law and the competition Privacy Notice, which explains how data is used, retained and how individuals can exercise their rights.
Where participants are children, additional care is taken to protect their personal data, and no child will be publicly identified without parental or guardian consent.
Personal data will not be used for marketing and will not be shared with third parties except where necessary to deliver agreed publicity and only with appropriate consent and approvals.
10. Deadline
All submissions must be received by 17:00 on Monday 8th June 2026. Suggestions received after this time will not be considered.
11. Changes to the Scheme
Great British Energy – Nuclear reserves the right to amend, suspend, or end the competition at any time where necessary. Any material changes will be communicated via the competition webpage.
12. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting a suggestion, entrants confirm that they:
- Meet the eligibility requirements
- Have read and understood these Terms and Conditions
- Agree to be bound by them
13. Children and Safeguarding
GBE-N recognises that children require additional protection in relation to their personal data.
Children are encouraged not to include personal or sensitive information in their suggestions. Any such information identified will not be used and may be removed.
Parents, guardians and schools are encouraged to review the competition Privacy Notice before participation.

Participants are asked not to include personal or sensitive information in their entry text.

- Support agreed publicity activity, only where explicit consent has been given

Where the participant is under 18, explicit consent from a parent or legal guardian is required before any publicity takes place.
Participation in the competition does not require consent to publicity.

We recognise that children require additional protection.

- No child will be publicly identified without parental or guardian consent.
- Publicity involving children is optional and subject to explicit consent.
- Information is provided in clear age-appropriate language.
In designing and running this competition, we have taken account of children's higher protection needs and best interests, in line with UK data protection law.
Who can access your data
Access to competition data is restricted to authorised members of the GBE-N Communications Team who need it to administer the competition.
Data is not routinely shared with third parties. Any exceptional sharing (for example with media) will take place only with appropriate consent and approvals.
How we keep your data secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including:
- Secure systems within Microsoft 365
- Role-based access controls
- Multi-factor authentication
- Audit logging
- No downloads to personal devices
- Clear guidance for staff handling children's data
How long we will keep your data
Personal data relating to the competition will be kept for up to six months after the competition closes, then securely deleted.
Records of publicity consent may be kept only as long as necessary to demonstrate that consent was obtained.

You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Ask for incorrect data to be corrected
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Withdraw consent (where consent is used)
